Housewarming Party Questions.?

A couple of friends and I just rented our first apartment. Since it's such and exciting time for us, we're throwing a party. I was wondering if anybody had any ideas on how to throw the perfect party. What types of foods would be best and when is the best time to have the party? Any other tips would be appreciated. Be careful how you invite guests. Do you expect them to bring a gift or not?  If not, say so on the invitation. Good things are chips/dip, any kind of finger foods and lots of variety. Have plenty of beer and some kind of fruit punch with and without liquor. And of course, some can sodas. These are fun.....but be specific on that invitation. If some people bring gifts, others will be uncomfortable that they didn&#039;t understand to bring a gift or couldn&#039;t afford it.

I think an open house works nicely - that way you won&#039;t have everyone at once and keeps things exciting.  I like food you can put in a crockpot so you dont&#039; have to keep watching it or cooking.  In addition, you should have some dips (depending on how many people you are having put each dip in two bowls or more - put one out and then when it is gone you can put another out and that way it will stay fresh.)  make some finger foods and again, don&#039;t put them all out at once.  Scatter your dishes throughout the evening.  Put the food in one area and the beverages in another.  That way people won&#039;t all congregate in one area.  Leave dim lights on in all the rooms, get some fresh flowers.  Have fun!

Probably a Friday or Saturday evening would be best, or maybe Saturday early-ish evening.  As far as what to serve, pick some foods that you like, do you want to make the food or buy the food?  Or some combo of the two?  You could even get several interesting flavors of pizza, some creative drinks and call it good, it really depends on how fancy/casual you want it.

i would go with dips and appetizers......

spinach dip

black bean avacado dip

veggie dip

atichoke dip

cheese, crackers, pepperoni

shrimp cocktail

crab dip

i would have the party early evening on a saturday!!
