Question:

How Can I Overcome My Fears??

I am struggling to recover from anorexia, and part of that means gaining weight. At the time, i am 17 years old, 5'4, and weigh around 82lbs. My mom already talked to this doctor/nutritionist that im supposed to meet with next week, and she wants me to increase my calories to gain weight (mostly using ensure, boost drinks, etc). My mom agreed that if i can gain 10lbs and keep it on, she will back down off me a little bit. I KNOW in my heart that i need to gain this weight, but i am scared. Despite the fact that i feel fat/bloated a lot, i cannot deny that the number on the scale is dangerously low, and i know that i need to gain this weight for my health. How can i overcome my fears and find the strength to do this?

Thank you in advance

  1. Face your fears.

  2. It's just like Nike says, just do it.

  3. Im guessing you chose anorexia because you thought you were big (in quotes). I think you should understand your worst enemy is yourself, you need to confront the fact that you are not bloated or fat or what ever. Find your inner beauty. Sounds kind of hippy but you need to. It will help greatly.

  4. You

    are

    not

    FAT.

    you

    are

    skinny!

    you

    need

    to

    gain

    10lbs

    believe in yourself.

    you are not fat

    infact

    120 isn't

    even

    fat.

    ITS

    NORMAL

    90-100

    SKINNY!!

    Believe in yourself.

    eat anything you want!

Taste the great food god gave to us.

    PLEASE

    YOU CAN DO IT!!!

    "Believe in yourself"

Sometimes you just gotta stand up for what you believe in even if it means stannding alone.

    KEY: BELIEVE

  5. i know it is hard to try and overcome this fear of gaining weight but just try not to think about it.. i know it is easier said than done cause i really don't like to eat either but my parents make me and i really hate it but they don't know that when they aren't there and they ask me if i ate anything i lie to them and say i did when really i didn't I'm am sure that you can get through this!

  6. You are afraid of losing control. Anorexia is all about control. You control what you eat and by doing that you get attention. Recognize that and trust that the Dr. is going to help you. The end result of anorexia is death. You will feel much better once you get into treatment.

  7. mainly confront this issue and just do it thats about it

  8. You should look into a support group.  You may actually be finding comfort in your fears, this will not help you recover.

  9. Exposure to fear diminishes it.
