How is this tv?

http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/nav...076&pCatg=5883

I think its a good tv has 5ms response time, is 1080p, has a 29,000:1 contrast, and its cheap. IDK much about tv's though, and I'm not sure about the brand and how reliable it is, but its a really good deal. And Sams Club has a really good return policy.

Thanks for any help.

  1. Magnavox/Philips (same mfg.) is at the very bottom of the "name brand" manufacturers as far as reliability - way too many consumer complaints. But at least you have a decent chance getting parts and/or service when it does break down, unlike the cheap, disposable third tier TVs, such as Vizio, Olevia, Insignia, Dynex, Element, and Polaroid, where once the warranty expires you're screwed - no parts, no service.

I suggest you might want to look at the Panasonic Viera TH-42PX80U, a 42" 720p/1080i plasma display, assuming you're interested in the best dollar for dollar performance and reliability in a 42" screen, unless your primary use will be games. It's $100 over the Sam's price at Circuit City, but available for just about Sam's Magnavox price on-line, should you choose to go that route.  And Unless you step up to around 50", you probably will not be able to tell the difference from 1080p! And remember, the only source of 1080p input is Blu-ray, and then only some of it's movies and games are 1080p. 1080p is NOT available OTA, or cable, or satellite.

If you decide to go 40"-42" in an LCD, look hard at the Sony Bravia and somewhat less expensive Toshiba Regza for quality, reliability, and performance in an LCD.

As far as where to buy, yes Sam's is good, as well as Costco. Good hunting.

  2. for the price tht tv is tht is a really good tv . it is full hd (the latest technology) and has a decent response time . the contrast ratio is 29000:1 , i am gonna assume u have looked at the tv in reality , because tht is the ultimate determinant of how the tv is , numbers can be shuffled , eyes cant

    good luck
