  2. A major application of biotechnology to crops is virus tolerance. These crops contain a gene taken from a virus. By a process that is not well understood, plants that produce certain viral proteins are able to fend off infections by the viruses from which the proteins were taken. Two virus-tolerant crops are currently approved for commercial use, papaya and squash. The squash, which is resistant to two viruses, is currently off the market. Although it is difficult to get information on why products are not on the market, it is possible that the squash did not perform well enough in the field to capture market share.

  3. basically the viruses act as vector (vehicle) to carry any gene inside the plant, The inserted gene can be designed up to u demand.

  4. Virus is mostly used as biopesticides to control pests in agricultural crops. They are prepared as formulation and available as culture which are sprayed by diluting with water as ordinary pesticides.Most successful in cotton.

  5. viri (plural for virus) are sometimes used to combat plant/animal diseases, but not a popular practice since it requires high degree of expertise (virology, pathology, etc.) to do so.
