  1. Its supposed to be very bad for you - its a stimulant, causes high blood pressure etc.

Google it and find out more about it.

  2. I couldn't start the day without it myself.... it gets me going and makes me feel like I am ready to take on the world....

Caffeine is the most commonly used mood-altering drug in the world. Caffeine is found in numerous plants, the most widely consumed being coffee, tea, cola nut, cocao pod, guarana, and maté. It is estimated that in North America between 80 and 90 percent of adults and children habitually consume caffeine. About 15% of the general population report having stopped caffeine use completely, citing concern about health and unpleasant side effects.

  3. Caffeine is necessary but not much of it is requried. It is needed to help our body move sugar around to where it is needed. However, it also dehydrates us and depletes us of calcium.

It takes more water for our body to process the caffeine than what a caffeinated beverage provides. Plus since the water in a drink enters our system quicker and passes through it is long gone while the caffeine is left behind. This makes it essential to drink water about 15 - 30 minutes after having a caffeinated beverage.

I do not know how much we actually should get and what level is too much. Even after looking through a couple of books I have not found it. Only one references finding excess calcium in urine after people consume 300 mg of caffeine. That seems like a very high level anyhow. A serving (8 ounces) of coffee, tea, or soda should have anywhere from 20 - 30 mg of caffeine.  300 mg would be the equivalent to 10 drinks (80 ounces) which is enough water for a 160 pound person. That would seem to cause a pretty good case of dehydration too.

Based on that I would think that an amount of 100 - 150 mg of caffeine in a day should be the maximum safe range.

  4. Like anything, excess  is the key word.

And personally, do not speak to me until I have had at least two cups every morning, I am not fit for conversation. It is very good for my disposition.
