I have a 10 gal aquarium currently with 1 algae eater and 2 grey clawed frogs. They are the big kind, so they didn't let me know any of this. I'm returning them or I will find a home for them soon. I would like the cool tetras! And of course African Dwarf Frogs!!!!!

  1. So which type of tetra do you think is cool? There are many different kinds.

Usually tetra's get no bigger than 2 inches adult size. The rue of thumb is inches of adult fish per gallon of water, so you could fit 5-6 depending on the type you get.

Also remember that tetras are schooling fish.

Yes you most definitely have to get rid of the frogs (if you want fish). Each of your frogs can get about 12 inches. Also, if you have a plecostomus I wold take that back as well as they can get over 18"!! You need to find a smaller algea eater.

  2. It would help if you were specific as well.  Congo tetras grow to 3: and emeror tetras to 3.5, so these are not some you want in your tank.I'm sure you mean the smaller species like the neon, glo-lite, head-and-tail light, cardinal, serpae, rummy-nose, and many others.

    Neons, cardinals-1.25"

    Black neon, diamond - 1.5"

    Glowlight, lemon - 2"

Other species names can be found on the following site.  Researching these on the i-net would be the best way to find sizes on most.

Virtually all of the smaller tetras need to be kept in groups of at least 6.

  3. It depends on the type of tetra.  There are many different kinds and they range in size.
