How can Ambulances be improved?

Question

I am a Final year Design student currently looking into Paramedic Vehicles.

I was wondering if there were any paramedics out there who could help me if they have some opinions on current ambulances please?

Examples:

How could the vehicles or the products within be improved?

Is there anything that is complicated to use?

Are there any physically demanding parts of the job?

Are there regular maintenence tasks that need to be carried out?

Any other comments?

1) everything can obviously be imporved on

2) the vehicle itself is fairly simple but equipment can be more difficiult

3) Obviously lifting grossly obese patients by two people is ridiculous so a nice hydraulic cot that can be set at any level position would be fantastic

4) all equipment and the vehicle is maintained by the staff working the shift

LOL...interesting...

How about one that you just shut all the doors and push a button and there is an automatic system that cleans and sterilizes the interior of the Amb.  That would be awesome!  Kind of far fetched, but awesome.

A super duper ventilation system would be great as well. The back tends to get a bit stuffy which can be really bad when you are sharing it with something (or someone) that smells foul.  I am sure i can think of more realistic ones. I'll get back to you with those.
