My mom has cancer and I am the oldest of 5 kids. I have to be strong for her...but there are also times when I just want to brake down in tears. I cant let my siblings see me cry because they aren't really sure about my moms cancer and I dont want them to get worried. How can I be strong, but also be able to let myself cry every now and then?

  2. You don't have a choice if you Mom's cancer can be cured! This is a rare time in your life that you have to be 110% mature and help your Mom and everyone else in the house believe it is going to be OK. I'm sure it will be the hardest thing you have ever done, but will turn out to be just one in a number of growing experiences for you in your life.

If you Mom is terminal then you can temper the above with what the first answerer stated, get in that shower and have a good cry, in fact let us all know and we'll cry with you. But it's up to you to keep the spirit high in this time when all everyone wants to do is mourn before it's time. You can do this because you have to and it's important that your Mom see's you have the spirit to carry on.

  3. So sorry, same thing happened to me with my dad getting cancer, so I just threw myself into my schoolwork and tried to keep myself entertained away from my family for a few hours a day (books, theatre, going shopping with a friend, etc). Never feel that people don't have enough time to hang out with you or accomodate your family situation...a good support group of friends will see you through this, and in the meantime do some nice things for your siblings as well to take your/their mind off things until your mom can explain things a bit better to them. Cry if necessary, I think in the morning its better than at night...sleep peacefully and pray if you have a religion, if not then just don't worry, something will look out for you and yours. Hope I helped

  4. Whenever I want to cry but don't want anyone to know, I do it while taking a shower, it is really the best place because your alone, and no one is going to walk in on you.

You need to be able to have your feelings about this.

I am so sorry that your mom has cancer, I will keep you and your family in my thoughts.
