How can I cancel this appointment?

Question

I want to cancel an appointment that was hard to get with a therapist in demand, after asking him to make space for me. The appointment is tomorrow morning and I've canceled twice before. What should I say?

Apologize, cancel, and don't try to reschedule again unless you are absolutely sure you will keep the next appointment.  You will have canceled three times already.  Since this therapist is in demand, you are getting in the way of his helping other people.

Make a decision and stick with it.  If you really don't want to see the therapist don't annoy them by begging for an appointment and then continuing to cancel.  You will take the appointment tomorrow or you will pay for it and then I would assume the therapist wouldn't bother to allow you to schedule in the future.  You either need the therapist or not but at this point I would say you need the therapist.  Stop making demands on people when you clearly don't intend to follow through.

It would be poor etiquette to cancel.  If you must, you will probably have to pay a fee.  But if you can manage to go, you really should, especially since he went out of his way for you.

ETA:  It's only right to pay the fee, so don't even ask him to waive it.  3 times?  This is why they have to charge a fee.

i'd be very surprised if you didn't have to pay a fee for cancelling at such short notice. why have u left it till now?

tricky one, as you say he is in demand and you were on his case. you may have to be prepared to pay a fee, but explain to him that you do need an appointment, but as neither of you could confirm until this morning you have unintentionally double booked yourself and will have to cancel. obviously apologise profusely and ask when the next available appointment would be. it might not be as soon as you like, but at least you see him, and MAKE SURE you free yourself up on that day! good luck! x
