Question:

How can I reply to him?

One guy asked me to send my resume, he said "if you want I can forward it to some person(his friend) in a big firm" but I don't know whether I can trust this guy or not...

I have met him only once and had a very little chat. He asked my email and I got his email very next day. He is kind enough to give me information about how to search a job or something.

Is it common in North America, to take care of people you don't really know?? Because my resume contains my private information such as my phone number and home address, I don't want him to look at it...

How can I email him back to say "basically no" to his offer in a good and polite way? If you were me, how would you reply to him?

Thanks!

  1. Tell him politely that you'd rather keep that information as private as possible (that tells him that you're not just rejecting him, but all people you don't know very well), and that you'd prefer to have the email of this contact of his directly, so you can do it yourself.

That being said, my dad has a few acquaintances that have helped him in the past while he was job-hunting, though I'm not sure if he directly gave them his resume. I think they just passed on information to him.

  2. I would say I woould like to send the resume muself and use you as a reference.  Leave it at that.  Then too if he is friends with this person he will probably get your info anyway.  So think about that.

  3. just say "I'll think about it, and will tell you later". This HEDGING will give you more time to think, and probably enough time for him to forget you. :)
