  1. Don't file bankruptcy for just $3800. It's not worth the long time hassle for a nominal amount of money. Even if he's earning a small amount of money he can still make arrangements with the card company/collection agency.

He can get another job or a second one just until the debt is repaid.

  2. Call the company in question and make them aware of the situation and see if they are willing to provide another way to pay the debt before it goes into collections. Most companies will allow you to pay them off and stop calculating interest, make sure you get it in writing.then send letter with information and 2 pieces of ID to you credit reporting agency, once paid off repeat the process. To go bankrupt for this amount is a very un wise thing to do as it is a very small amount of money and it will follow you the rest of your life.In the future do not buy it unless you can pay cash for it.Cards aresupposed to used for convience and emergencies. When using a card, pay when you get home as then there will be no interest charges(3% per month) and this is a waste of your money.

  3. Get a Bankrupsy lawyer, I dont think you declare bankrupsy without one.

Dont file bankrupsy, dispute information on credit report.  See if it can be removed.  3800 on credit card isn't enough to file anyways.  Bankrupsy is to help you protect certain things such as houses, cars ect..

Also change numbers, dont use the phone number when filing credit information or applying for loans.  have someone in a different who speaks in a different language record a message, they may stop calling.

If the card is charged off, it's 7 years bad credit regardless if it's paid or not.  Bankrupsy is 10 years extremely bad credit.

I hope some of this information helps good luck.

You can also legally change your name and SS.  But it might be against the law to do that if you trying to cover up a bad credit report.

  5. One thing that must be done is to spell bankruptcy properly.

Bankruptcy laws have been tightened in recent years, making it far more difficult for people to walk away from small debts like credit cards.

His best bet is to call one of those consumer credit counseling outfits (after researching them) and getting help in paying it off. A bankruptcy will kill his credit, especially if he doesn't earn much. It will give creditors the opinion that he'd prefer to not pay his debts.

  6. I am simply amazed at these answers!  Anjell finally comes up with the correct response!

It's going to cost you between $1500 and $2000 (plus credit counseling costs) to file for bankruptcy.  It's simply crazy to file for a $3800 debt!
