  1. Doesn't sound broken.  Visit a few other boaters and see how fast their compasses move.

  2. Boat compasses are design to move slow.  If they move too fast then it would be difficult to read when the boat jiggles.

    Good Luck.

  3. It depends.  That is: type/brand and installation.  Since all compasses and magnetic heading sensors are subject to disruptive magnetic fields, it should be located as far away from determine if the problem is "fixed" or "variable" magnetic interference.  Variable sources of interference are somewhat difficult as they will change in time and cannot easily be compensated. However fixed sources such as electronic equipment, loudspeakers, movable metal objects, etc., may cause magnetic interferences that will contribute to your problem and can be compensated for by moving them further away from your compass.  If not a "fixed" compensation problem, depending on your type of compass, check your installation manual or cruise the internet for it's manufacturer and holler help!

  4. Replace it ,a good compass can be re calibrated, but you need to have a good one ,  say boat assy store and they will tell you if its worth fixing

  5. Throw it overboard and buy another one.

  6. Your compass should stay in alignment with magnetic north no matter how fast your boat changes course. There should be no "hunting." It may be mounted near sources of magnetism on your boat, impairing performance. Check that all wires near it are twisted together to null out magnetic fields caused by direct current.

  7. As Helper says, a Compass is supposed to 'move slow'. this is called damping and is a design feature, and one that you really dont want to be getting rid of.

Perhaps if you could explain why you need it to realign it'self as fast as possible i might be able to offer a specific solution

  8. no point fixing it get  a new one
