There was the recent case in Vermont with the missing girl. It was solved within 3 days. Then, there are the Jon Benet Ramsey and McCann cases. Why aren't these solved just as quickly?

  1. Money can buy words, not friendship!

  2. Maybe the bumbling cops in Vermont got lucky.

  3. Don't know the Vermont case, but the McCann case has been muddled from the first and not least because the Portuguese authorities put a burden of silence on the parents so the whole thing has become shrouded in mystery and intrigue which is completely unnecessary and unhelpful.

  4. Lack of evidence.

    ** or misuse of evidence.

  5. Sometimes law enforcement gets lucky and they have more to go on.  Sometimes there is just no where to go to solve a case, or mistakes are made when assumptions are followed to the exclusion of other possible scenarios.

The first assumption in almost any missing child case (as well as many other personal crimes) is that a family member is involved.  Sometimes law enforcement gets caught up in that assumption and misses other important clues or possible explanations.

  6. The Ramsey case was fumbled by law enforcement who tainted the scene of the crime.  Every case is different, some have strong leads from the get-go pointing to a particular suspect, whie others are simply unsolveable.

  7. Vermont criminals are dumb? I dunno...
