Habitat destruction..grasslands are disappearing across the U.S.  Almost every endangered species on the planet has become endangered mainly to habitat destruction.

My guess, and it is only a guess,  is that we have destroyed its habitat by draining and filling marshes and turned productive fields of grass to agricultural crops that pay a greater return. It has been a long time since I've seen a bobolink in the field. Sigh.
