Maybe it's just because I'm a Tigers fan, but am I wrong in saying the Tigers are the biggest disappointment this year in the MLB?

They were suppose to score 1,000 runs and challenge for the World Series...and now what? They can't even go .500

  1. The 2008 Tigers could go down as one of the most overrated and hyped teams in the preseason that never made an impact since the 1st game of the season.  It just shows you that an offense of big names does not necessarily make you a great team.  I think the Yankees of the last few years has proved that every year.  All offenses can be very inconsistent throughout a 162 game season but good pitching is alot more consistent and have a much greater impact throughout a long season.  This is why teams like TB or ARI are playoff caliber teams and teams like DET or NYY are not.

  2. well, i agree 1000% with you. they are the biggest disappointment.... even more so when they lost 119 games. I went and saw them a few weeks ago in Tampa.... what a joke. they played hard for like 20 minutes and then it seemed like they gave up. and i saw all three games. they really suck. I think the comment about shef is spot on... they need to get rid of him... he's like a virus bringing the other guys down. DARE i say, barry Bonds would be a better player for us right now. they are done for sure now... 9 games back.... what a bunch of losers. and what is a shame... they will probably fire Jim Leyland for their lack of motivation... he should just rip them all up. but who knows maybe they need a big shake up.

    go tigers..... maybe next year

  3. MLB teams are just as good as their pitching will take them.  For example; Rays team ERA 3.74 and WHIP 1.27, Red Sox 3.87 and 1.32, Angels 3.90 and 1.30, White Sox 3.90 and 1.29.  When you look at the Tigers they are 4.51 and 1.46.  While some of these teams with better pitching are winning games 2-1 you have the Tigers losing 9-7.  If you go back and look at my answers to this kind of question before the season started you will see that I predicted the Tigers would be no better than a .500 team and out of the playoffs.  Tigers fans were looking at the team through rose colored glasses and putting too much emphasis on hitting and overlooking a dismal pitching staff.  By the way, the Tigers have scored 604 runs to this point in the season and the only AL teams with more are the Red Sox at 622 and the Rangers at 688.  So, don't point your finger at the offense, they are certainly doing their job.  You can't get milk out of a turnip and the Tigers just don't have the arms to keep them in the chase.  So for me they are not a disappointment at all but rather playing to my expectations.

  4. No the Indians are the biggest disappointment with the Mariners...the Tigers will get back on track next year

  5. Yeah, they have a huge payroll and never really got it going this year.  You could make the argument that they are the most disappointing team in baseball.

  6. They're a close second to the NY Yankees.  You know it's gotten bad when you sign Richie Sexson to help upgrade your offense.

  7. They are a very big disappointment. They are third in the division with a 58-62 record and are 9.5 games back of the White Sox. But if you think the Tigers are a disappointment, just look at the Mariners.

  8. Well I was very disappointed in how the Tigers have played all season. They went out got the so-called next A-Rod and a pitcher who was amazing 2 years ago to get them back to the playoffs. I know injuries have hurt the team, but there is no reason Jim Leyland's club should struggle this much.

  9. They are a very big disappointment. Seattle was supposed to be a great team this year too. But they have the worst record in the MLB.

  10. It could be worse - you could be a Mariners fan.

  11. Very.  Once they get rid of Gary "its all about me" Shieffield, I think they will do just fine.

  12. One of biggest disappointments of the 2008 season & after all that pre season hype.  Seattle is probably the biggest disappointment of this season

  13. I'm pretty disappointed. The Tigers have scored more runs than they have given up but have a losing record. The Law of Averages says that eventually that will be made up. I wonder when that will be. The Tigers have underachieved for many years and if the Law of Averages is real than the Tigers are going to be winning a lot in the future. It is obvious that there will be no playoffs in 2008 and I don't see hope for 2009 or 2010. The Tigers traded good young prospects for "proven" players that have not delivered. The farm system is ranked #28 out of 30. It's gonna be awhile Tiger fans before they will win anything.
