How do I clean this stain?

Yesterday, I spilled rubbing alcohol on my dark wooden floor and didn't think much of it. I went to sleep and when I woke up the area where it had spilled was white! I tried wiping it up but it's still there. How do I get rid of it?

  1. refinish the whole thing because it's not just a stain..it kinda 'bleached' the wooden surface. it's a little costly but will have perfect results.

  2. sand and refinish the area!

  3. I hope you have some of the original stain...or at least know the color.

Go over the area (and about three inches around it) with a medium grade sand paper...sanding in the direction of the grain.

Work your way down to a very fine sand paper increasing the area just slightly so you get a 'feathered' edge (An edge where you can't tell it was sanded.)

Put your stain on as directed on the container and let it air dry...completely.

If you use a stain with the finish in it, such as Flecto Varathane, you can just rub it out with a dry, soft rag and you're done.

If you use a stain without the finish you will have to 'sand' it with steel wool. Here you want to start with a medium grade too and work down to a very fine grade. Use a tack cloth to remove any dust from the area and apply the finish according to the directions.

You will see a difference in the color and texture of the area for a while but it will all blend in eventually
