  1. Aye, darn it! Gershom beat me to the answer.  {{{hugs**}}} Gersh!  Just want to add as a California adoptee, myself (I was adopted at age 3 in California)...

Were you a foster child before being adopted? Do you know your last name (prior to the adoption)? I was able to get a copy of my court records related to being a foster child.  In those papers, I found my first mother's name along with other family members (birth dad, siblings, aunts, uncles, etc.).

Also, contact the agency that handled your adoption and request non-identifying info.  At the same time, provide them with a letter authorizing the release of your information, or request whatever form they may use for this purpose. (For me, it was the department of social services).

Feel free to send me an e-mail and I'll be happy to help!

  2. Register at ISRR.net

If you are in the USA your State may have a sibling registry.  If you amend your question to indicate which state  you were born in I can give more accurate guidance.

If you are in most other countries of the world then you can obtain your records.   It is only the USA that holds on to old fashioned and shameful secrecy laws which keep the shame and stigma very much alive even today.  It's shocking.

  3. California's laws vary from county to county its really wacky here. People have been fighting open records on a county level. Some counties are open records to the adoptee( with the consent of his/her aparents) others aren't.

Here is a page that lists the open record counties ( again they're only available to you w/ your aparents consent ) http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/960...

If your parents do not consent you'll have to petition the courts for any information. If I were you I would write the state and seek non identifying information on your siblings and see what happens. If your adoption was finalized in an open county I would seek identifying information on your siblings too. State officials in charge of the information given to us vary, some will give it to you, others won't so if at first you don't succeed try try again!

Siblings age 21 or older may register to meet a sibling 21 or older who was adopted. ( registry fee’s change periodically and both parties must register for contact to be made )
