How do I start traveling?

My husband and I are looking to travel. We live in Pa, and have only been to Franklin Indiana, and that was for our honeymoon. We've gone to Letchworth state park in Ny, and that is all. We can only drive due to my husband's and mine fear of flying. Plus Driving is a lot more personal with the earth. You can take your time to breathe and absorb what is going on around you. How do we start? What are some great cities that have culture (i.e New Orleans) to see?

Also consider a cruise if you are afraid to fly. At least that way you might be able to go somewhere a little different. From east coast you can cruise to Bermuda, Bahamas, Canada, even Europe if you have some time and money.

fear of flying is a terrible excuse..have your husband take a sedative before you fly and he'll be okay. if you really want to be more personal with the earth than experience the world and its cultures and different characterstics in each location. there is nothing like leaving the US to really appreciate humanity.. i think traveling the world is one of the most important things a person can do.

Why don't you get a rail pass?  And if you're heading for New Orleans, hop on a cruise or a river boat from there?  There are wonderful trips up and down the Mississippi and wonderful cruises departing from there.  Or drive to Florida and then down to the Keys or to the Gulf side to Sanibel Island.  It's beautiful.  Or take a train to Manhattan and see the Big Apple.  See shows, go shopping and to museums.  Or take a train to Washington DC--tons to do and see there. Or take a train out West to my favorite city in the world (and birth place) San Francisco!  Then you can ride a cable car!  And our weather in the fall is FANTASTIC.  You can also drive 1 1/2 hours north to the wine country, or 1 1/2 hours south to Pebble Beach/Carmel.  Or drive up and down Highway 1, and go to Hearst Castle/San Simeon.  Good luck and have fun!

It's a pity that you are fear of flying. Because if you take flights you could go to further... You could feel in the other side of the world still have the people...This will be a memorable experience for you and your family. Driving is too tired... But hope you have a good vacation. if you are not afraid of flying you could go to China... 5,000 years history...You and your family will enjoy it...

Me and my wife go all over the world..

She hates flying, it is her second worst phobia.

Her first worst phobia, is being left at home.

The world is wonderfull, Get a tranquilizer and a shot of bourbon, and by a plane ticket and see the world.
