Question:

How do I unclog my bathtub?

My bathtub is clogged with something and I think it's hair. I'm not sure what else it could be. I live in an apt and the bathtub seems somewhat complicated. It has some sort of weird netting at the bottom and it seems like the water gets split like 2 or 3 different ways. It doesn't just go down STRAIGHT. I tried this tool called zip it which you stick down drains and it pulls out hair but there's no way to get it into the openings in the bathtub. It just won't go all the way in. I know how to use the tool because I used it on my sink and it worked.

What do I do? What products can I use? I don't know what kind of piping this apartment has so what products would be ok with that? I live in a house that has a couple apartments, built in the 1940s, if that helps at all.

During a 15 minute shower, water accumulates almost a foot in the bathtub. Please help. I don't want to call the landlord.

  1. Either a plunger or Draino

  2. EWWWWWWWW *gags and dies*

Call your dad, thats what i'd do

  3. Hi, Buy Easyflow drain opener. You can only get it at a plumbing supply stoer. Its about $10, but it really works! Liquid Plumer and ones like that dont work, never have for me anyway. Read and follow the instructions to the letter, when you pour this stuff in actually will smoke a slight bit. Rick

  4. use a plunger

  5. Ok the first thing u gotta do is get some gloves then pull the hair out of the drain if its stuck down in the drain use some snake liquid to snake that nasty clump of hair out GOOD LUCK!!

  6. take a paper clip, unfold it and make it into kind of like a hook. Stick it down the drain and take the hair out. That has always worked for me. Make sure u use the metal paper clips, not the plastic ones. Also, this might take a while.

  7. you prolly have a hair buildup use any strong drain cleaner draio liqud plummer let it set a while then run water to form a pool in the tub and use a plunger the plug is mostly at the pipe elbow good luck, if that doesn't work check to make sure the bath tub plug is opening like it should although i found a tooth paste tube cap in mine and a micro mach. toy.... kids you know they are

  8. I had the same problem at my apartment.  I took a plunger and used it over the drain, it will bring some stuff up.  I am pretty sure it will be hair.  I have also used Drain-o but it never worked.  After I plunged it once I never had another problem.

  9. Drano works great. Just pour it down let it sit for awhile and then run really hot water down it. When ever I get clogs in the bath tub Drano works the best.

  10. 1. Pour a gallon of BOILING water down the drain, directly.

    2. Repeat as needed.

Wax in soap is your buildup, most likely.

If you like to waste money, use Drano.

  11. get some Draino.  Pour it right in the drain, then immediatly pour boiling water in down there too.  It will clear right up.

  12. Pour Drano and let is sit for ten minutes and then run the hot water for about five minutes..

  13. plunger or a snake... you can pick up a cheap snake at Home Depot for under $12... of course, if you live on an upper level the clog may actually be beneath your apt in the the stack leading from your downstairs neighbor's place... in which case, it'd be their responsibility to fix it.

  14. well, i have this alot sins there are alot of girls and women with long hair. what you do is take a plunger and plunge it out i mean you could buy it in the store. or what my dad does is you know where the bathtub drains all the water and where the ahir is stuck there are things you could losen with a screwdriver and then you could open it and you have plunger it or try to clean it because its most likely to be hair.

  15. I wouldnt do it. you can cause damage. especially in an apartment  situation. I would call your landlord. that is part of your agreement.

  16. My husband says that I shed!  Very funny but so true!  i buy Drano just read the back of the bottles because there are several different types and it will tell you which one to use!  I have to do it about every three months!

  17. I shed a lot and need to clear my bathtub drain often (every few months). Draino works really well.

  18. put bleach down it

  19. Your best bet is to use a snake. They have electric one you can rent very reasonably. It work s.

  20. You can try some liquid plumber, but if that doesn't work you should inform your landlord.

  21. Try using a plunger.  I know what you're talking about, my bathtub drain is like that, too, and I went and got a brand new heavy duty plunger, one of the ones that looks like an accordion sort of at the bottom.  I ran the water until there was about six inches of water and plunged it really well.  Works with hair and other clogs, haven't had it fail yet!

  22. there are products like

    Liquid Plumer

    or

    Liquid Plumber

that you pour down the drain - through standing water.

they are all reasonably safe - much safer than the crystal stuff .

Use gloves, and don't have your nose right over the bathtub drain when you pour it in.
