  1. Don't worry. They give you such looks because they just envy you. They are too old and they cannot do all the cool tricks you perform on your skateboards... :-))

  2. Skateboading is fine in a skateboarding park.  But on public streets and sidewalks, it's a nuisance.

  3. As an adult, I think skateboarding is a great way to get out, keep active, and have fun.  The only problem I have with skateboarding (or any other activity for that matter) is that sometimes skateboarders are skating where it's prohibited or they sometimes damage property by skating on the rails or stairways.  Find someplace where you're not bothering anyone and it's great.  Some adults give EVERYONE dirty looks, even other adults.

  4. mabye adults are worried that your going to break a bone. thats what my mom always thought when i used to skate. or like, if your in a store and someone gives you a dirty look its probubly because they think your going to break something in the store

hope this helps and good luck :)

  5. many years ago when street skating was just starting the skateboarder image was a very rebellious teenager with no respect for the law does drugs, hes rude, always looking for a fite, and stuff like that. now over the years skating has changed and so have skateboarders, but the old image has remained although it has gotten better it still isnt accurate now skateboarding is about freedom and fun. the adults that give u a look like they expect you to be bad is because they know the old image and thats all they know. now not all adults look at all skaters this way, some think its great and good exercise but for others theres always that bad reputation it once had and they dont really want to believe its changed. and its mostly old people so stay away from the old ladies with pepper spray

  6. I weave in and out of people all the time and get dirty looks

If they're a real jerk I'll flip em off or ask can I help you

  7. I'm over 40, If that qualifies as an adult in your book. I think skating is one of the greatest things ever. I skated more as a kid than I do now, but I still grab my Sector Nine longboard and hit the streets as often as I can. I also am the father of 4 and I encourage all my kids to skate. I hope there are more people my age that skated or still skate then there are people who poo-poo the idea.

    SK8 on!!!

  8. I am an adult ( or so I am told ) and here is my take on it. As long as the skateboarders are not endangering others or causing inconveniences or acting in a rude, disrespectful way to us "passers by" then they should be allowed to skate to their hearts content.

I think it is great exercise and takes a lot of skill and dedication to practice to become good at it.  An excellent way for young people to spend their time.

I have two sons of "skateboarding age" ( 11 and 8 ) and I support them in their love of skateboarding.

Just one thing, though, to all my beloved "skate punks"... BE SAFE !!!   Wear the helmet and all the gear, please.

  9. I'm an adult.  I  still skate in the street and in front of stores.  I also have done many other things in the name of skateboarding that are much worse.  Draining and skating  backyard pools to name one thing.

h**l, I get dirty looks not riding a skateboard.  It could be the piercings, tattoos or long hair.  No one has ever been killed by a dirty look.

If you stay away from heavy pedestrian or auto traffic, you should be OK.

  10. theres nothing wrong with skateboarding, see, people just think that skateboarders just skate and smoke weed. well there wrong of coarse. nothing is wrong with skateboarding bro keep doing what you do dude. nothing is wrong.

    hope ive helped a bit

  11. Skateboarding has been consistently popular for about the last 20 years, so adults up to age 35 or even 40 will generally have a nuetral attitude about it. There may be some prejudice and stereotyping going on with adults older than that.

But, I will say that doing things that endanger yourself or other people will be frowned upon most mature people. If you haven't been driving long, you may not appreciate how easy it is to not see a skateboarder until they are in your way. Nobody wants to hit them, that is the problem. Nobody wants to get knocked down by a boarder on the sidewalk and people don't like being forced to avoid stairs and other public areas. Also, wear a helmet and pull up your pants! That's just irritating.

That said, a lot of cities have built skate parks, and that wouldn't happen without the support of a lot of adults. The parks are great and much safer than riding in the street. Nobody should have a problem with this.
