The shape of the wing, when air passes over it, creates low pressure on the top, generating "lift".

It depends on the aircraft.  Jets fly by combining thrust with wings designed for lift along with flaps that control the amount of lift.  The combination of speed and lift from the wings overcomes the weight of the plane and its contents.

Because of the shape of the wing, air takes longer to go over the top than it does to go under the bottom.  When the air going underneath reaches the back of the wing, the air going over the top hasn't gotten there yet.  This creates a vaccum (like your vaccum cleaner).  This vaccum sucks the back of the wing upwards.  We call this force "lift".

Propellers work on the same principle, only they pull the propeller forwards.

Flaps, slats, arlerions, etc. all function to change the shape (and therefore the lift) of the wings, tail, etc.

Objects move to places of lower pressure, look at the shape of a wing, the rounded  top of the wing makes air move faster above the wings...causing lower pressure....which in turn makes the plane go up!
