    first of all the atoms are joint by either ionic or covalent bonds

    ionic bonds are more rigid and hard than covalent bond

    the atoms are connected in a network in either 2-d or 3-d way

    if the distance between atoms are small and if the are joint by ionic bond they will have a crystalline structure
