You know i'm wondering the same thing.......i've seen one of my hens lay one though, very interesting!

eggs grow inside female  hens once they are 5 months old.. some breeds produce more eggs than others.. most times she will lay one once a day (morning usuaully)

they dont even have to have a rooster to lay an egg

when chickens r 8weeks they start to lay if they are running with a rooster the eggs could hatch in 3weeks if in an incubator or under the hen if sh will sit(go broody)
