  1. I am afraid that you are going to be disappointed.  Volleyball is not that hard to learn, but it will take more than a week.

You will probably not make a team unless it is a beginner team and you are ATHLETES.  If you are trying out for the first year junior high team, you have a chance.  If you are trying out for high school varsity, you will not make it unless you are an INCREDIBLE ATHLETE.  There are examples of athletes from other sports switching to volleyball and being successful.  But those are the exceptions.

The answers above mine have some great ideas.  You should work out hard and try YMCA and camps to learn the game.  And next year, you should be able to make the team.  Unlike other answers, I will still recommend you try out this year if you can handle being left off the team.

  2. well in tryouts always run everywhere.

    Be supportive of others.

    don't be negative.

    listen to the coaches.

if you don't make it just practice for next year.

make sure your sets are high.

    serves are wicked.

it also depends what level you are trying out for.

    bump set and spike it.

be nice and courtious to the coach but be aggressive.

    call mine

email me and tell me what grade you will be trying out for

and like Junior olympics or whatever

  3. If you and your friend have never played volleyball in youre life and youre just now trying out a week before the tryouts... good luck. It takes at least 1-2 months to learn the game and prepare for it for the first time.

work out your abs by doing crunches everyday. work out your arms by doing shoulder excercises every other day. Do squats, lunges, toe ups [fast reps 3 sets]... do lots of jumping exercises.

-you need to learn the spiking approach

-you need to practice how to pass RIGHT

-you need to practice how to set

-you need to practice how you dive [use knee pads so you dont get floor burns]

-TALK TALK TALK: call the ball "mine" "i got it!" "me me me"

-MOVE YOUR FEET TO THE BALL

    -REACT FAST

-dont expect the ball to come to you

*** watch a lot of volleyball videos and watch how they play... practice practice practice.

  4. If you don't know how to play, I wouldn't bother trying out for the team if you only have a week to prepare.  You may make the team depending on who else tries out, but it will take you several months to improve your skills.  It is an awesome sport and if you are serious about it, play somewhere else for a while and then tryout next year.  If you have played at a picnic somewhere, the real sport is nothing like that.  I've met most of my friends during my lifetime playing volleyball.  If you can learn to be a great setter, you can make lots of friends.

  5. I don't know what grade level this is, but if you've never played before, don't waste your time or the coaches time.

What I suggest you do is go to a YWCA or an organization similar to that, play on some recreational teams, go to volleyball summer camps. Learn the game and PRACTICE. Then tryout.
