How do i work the itouch?

Question

I just recieved an itouch from someone who upgraded to an iphone. She gave me nothing but the itouch and the battery charger. Do I need get an internet connection through AT&T? Does it automatically have a wi-fi connection. I think I can figure out the itouch once I figure out the whole internet thing.
