No sorry i don't.I played AFL up until week ago and broke finger and required surgery 2 days ago and have officially retired to start watching my kids grow up more with their sports and being able to move freely Sunday mornings again.CHEERS

I doubt i would want to explain everything to you here. some are hard to grasp, but easy once you understand the jist of it. but some of the basic rules are that the ball cannot be passed/knocked forward, even if its accidental. ball passed/knocked forward will result in a scrum. other situations which results in a scrum is when there is an accidental offside, throw in not straight in lineout...most of which are minor infringments.

The objective of the game is obviously to score as many points as you can and more than your opponent. you do that buy scoring tries, conversions, penalty kicks or drop goals. each try is worth 5 points followed by a taken conversion which adds 2 points for a total of 7. Penalty kicks and drop goals are 3 points each.

There are things called rucks and mauls, or more generally, a breakdown. A ruck is formed when a ball carrier gets tackled to the ground. when the ball carrier goes to ground, he MUST release the ball immediately, if not, this results in a penalty against him. teams will generally try and protect the ball from the opposition when the ball carrier goes to ground by forming a sort of barrier over the ball carrier. There are more rules governing the ruck, things like no hands in rucks etc. but im not going through all of them. A ruck is formed when generally 2 or more players from the ball carrier's team are over him. All players in a ruck must be bound.

Then, there are mauls. Mauls are sorta similiar to rucks but in this instance, the ball carrier does not go to ground and is instead still on his feet. Ball carrier teammates will generally bind onto each other and attempt to push forward, while the opposition team tries to stop them moving forward by binding and pushing over at the other side. Again, there are rules governing the maul, but i wont go over all of them. Things like pulling down the maul will result in a penalty against your team.

Set-pieces are both the scrums and the line-outs. normally, both of these will have all the 8 forwards in the team participating. scrums are formed by the first row, locks, and the back row. line-outs are obviously competing for the ball once its into touch. person normally throwing the ball in is the hooker. Lots of rules governing these as well. things like no hands in the scrum and lineout throw must be straight etc.

Basically, a minor offence like a knock-on, forward pass will result in a scrum given the feed to your opponent. While a more major offence like being offside, killing the ball in a ruck will results in a penalty.

15 players on a normal rugby team. 8 forwards and 7 backs.

numbers 4 and 5s are locks

numbers 6 and 7 are flankers

number 8 is well...number 8.

number 9 is a scrum half

number 10 is a fly half

numbers 11 and 14s are wingers

numbers 12 and 13s are centres

and finally number 15 is a full back.
