  1. it is the number of milligrams of medication for every kilogram of body weight. Take the value for mg/kg and multiply it by the weight of the patient to get total milligrams of the med. This is just unit cancellation, you can treat the units like variables and multiply and divide them to cancel them out. For example:

    Administer 5mg/kg codeine to a 35kg monkey for a broken ankle:

    35kg x 5mg/kg (kg cancels out because you divide it out) and you get 175mg total.

    Open answer:

    First of all you weigh someone: say 75 Kg

    Then you check what the recommended dose is

    eg 10mg per day per Kilo divided over three doses.

    Answer

    10mg x75= total daily dose of 750mg

    750/3 = 250mg three times  daily for this person of 75Kg !!
