How do you drive?

I have slowed down from 75 to 60mph, in this time of crisis with gas being so high, I think its time to slow it down, conserve fuel, so that we don't have to hit the gas pumps so often and maybe the less we fill up prices might come down, supply and demand. How do you feel about this, we all have to come together and do what is best to get these prices down.

The problem with dyno testing is you're not factoring in aerodynamic drag.  That's the ruling factor for fuel economy above about 50 mph, and it goes up exponentially.  That's why slowing down works.  Sure it varies among vehicles, but I cannot imagine it being higher than 65 mph for any street vehicle on the road today.  Probably 45-55 mph for most vehicles.

Got rid of the car, now carpooling if I have to go anywhere by car and split the cost with the driver. Where I live it is now 7 bucks a gallon and 150 bucks a month for parking. I just can't afford it with prices going up as well.  Luckily we have good public transportation and it is flat enough to ride the bike around!

Depends on your vehicle I have one motorcycle that gets it's best mileage at 45mph (DYNO TESTING 56-80 ci motors) another that gets best mileage at 95 (almost 8mpg better than at 65 or at 100)

These were the extreams with most getting best mileage at 65-70.

Slowing down will save gas with most vehicles but not with all.

We live a long way from anything and we don't go to town as often as we used to.  We also try to combine our trips so that we go together instead of separately, even if it means one of us has to wait an hour for the other. I no longer just hop in the car to go for a ride for grins!

i have done the same. i also turn off my engine instead of letting it idle. at a traffic light, i start off slow and gradually increase my speed. i try to think through my route so that i can get as many things done in one trip.
