  1. Well if it calculating from a fraction by dividing a number by a whole and multiplying by 100. For example if you get 8/10 on a test you divide 8 by 10 = 0.8 and multiply by 100% = 80%

  2. It's just a fraction, converted to 100th's.

    Example: 1/2. It's the same as 50/100, which would be .50.

    But for percent, you multiply the decimal fraction, in this case. .50, times 100, so you get 50%.

    See? It's easy.

  3. Percentage = Base X Rate

    (P=BR)

    Example:

    Item costs $50, but is on sale for 10% off.

    P=$5

    B= $50

    R=10% = .1

    As long as you have 2 of those numbers, you can solve any part of the equation.

    P=BR

    B=P/R

    R=P/B

    Easy way to remember all 3 equations:

    Draw a large T.  Put P on top of the T.  Put B on the lower left of the T.  Put R on the lower right of the T.  Identify the numbers that you do know as P, B or R.  Cover the unknown letter on the T diagram and, voila!, the remaining 2 show the formula.  I hope this makes sense.

  4. is over of   equals  % over 100

  5. It is just a fraction. For example, 5 is what percent of 20?

    5/20 = 0.25 time 100% = 25%

    5 is 25% of 20.

    Now, in problems like this, there's an easy way to read the percent directly from the fraction itself.

    take the 5/20 and multiply both top and bottom by 5; thus, (5/20) x (5/5) = 25/100. Just read the top number as your answer.

    The reason that this works is because 20 will go into 100 exactly 5 times.  And anything divided by itself is equal to one. So, 5/5 really just equals one. As such multiplying the original fraction by 5/5 didn't change the fraction (ratio) any.

    Do you kind of see how that works?  Now, that only works if the bottom number will go evenly into 100.

    Another example: 33% of 85 = ?

    Think of a ratio:  85 is to 100% what X is to 33%

    (85 / 100%) is to (X / 33%), and solve for X

    Cross-multiply

    X = (33% x 85) / 100%

    The percent signs will cancel out of the equation

    X = (33 x 85) / 100 = 2805 / 100 = 28.05 is your answer.

    33% of 85 = 28.05

    So, lets check that to make sure we are right.

    (28.05 / 85) x 100 = 33%

    -------------------------------------

  6. let's sy $600 is 100% therefore $12 will be 100/600 * 12 = 2%

  7. Multiply. That's like 5th grade stuff here. So if you want to find 38% of 576, then just multiply:

    576x38=...?

    you do the math!

  8. x = any number

    Multiply it by 100.

    Divide the anwser by what ever number your tring to find the percentage of.

    Example: 8 is what percent of 10

                     8x100= 800

                      800 divided by 10 = 80

    Anwser:  8 is 80% of 10
