  1. Did it yesterday with my grandson. You hold the kite, give the string to the kid have him run while holding the string when you release the kite. When the kite is in the air you keep letting out string. Doesn't take a rocket scientist.

  2. with wind

  3. Back in the 40's a kite kit you put together, along the terms of the assembly, and flight instruction, only cost a quarter. Too much for a brooklyn kid, that could go to Coney Island by trolley, and spend a day, for twenty five cents. We put thin cut strips of wood, cut from window shade inserts, made a cross, attached a string along the perimeter, then glued on newspaper. You needed an old rag to cut in strips to create a tail, strung out about 18 inches, the kite would measure about 27 x 16 inches. You tie a long rolled up string to the exact center of the two strings used to bow the kite slightly to this center. Go to a higher open space, run with the kite and play out the roll of string, and let it catch the wind created, rise and catch an up draft like a glider. We flew one six foot high, out of the back of a chevy rumble seat, stayed up in the sky all night.

  4. you take a kite and run down a huge hill with a big gust of wind and then wait. If it is a crappy kite from the dollar store it probrably won't work but good ones from sports stores work and last longer. Good Luck. I love to fly kites myself. hope you learn how! PS your avatar looks great.
