How do you put carpet concrete?

can you just glue the padding then staple the carpet to the floor

First things first gentlemen, ALWAYS tape a 3'x3' piece of visqueen or any other heavy, preferably clear, impermeable plastic tarp down to the concrete and leave it there for a week or at least until a day or two longer than the last good rainstorm. Many times the concrete will wick up moisture and it will evaporate without you even knowing it was there. The plastic when securely and air-tight taped down will reveal any moisture issues before you commit to a moldy, messy, wet, stinking, unhealthy rotting rug laying on your "Concrete" floor. If I had a nickel for every homeowner who put carpet in their basement on a concrete floor without first analyzing and if need be, sealing the floor I could go to the movies :) If no water droplets appear under your test tarp, you can use carpet glue (Concrete), tack strips, super glue, blah blah blah, really doesn't matter. DO yourself a favor, spend 75% of the cost of the carpet on GOOD padding, on concrete you will thank yourself over and over for doing it. Not only will the rug be more comfortable it will "Wear" much much better, look better, and "Lay" better for years to come. People want the "Best" carpet they can buy but for some reason "Cheap" out when it comes to the most important part of the "System". They are not trying to :"Sell you up" when they suggest very good padding for your new carpet, bite the bullet and do it right. Enjoy!

I put down carpet with the foam backing already attached down and put the trim around the base of the room.  It worked well for me.  I don't think staple and glue are a good idea.  They have things to stretch carpet and you use tack strips along the edge of the wall.  I hope this helps.

they make 2 types of tack strip---tack for concrete and tack for wood subfloor.  use the tack strip that is for concrete slab, spot glue your padding to the concrete and stretch and kick in your carpet as usual.  no staples are needed.

they also make a glue down type of carpet that doesn't require tack strip.  the type you would see in the doctor's office waiting room.  you could use that type instead of the type used with the tack strip.  a glue is troweled to the concrete and the carpet is laid on top.
