  1. Hello Cindy,  This is quite a question, firstly taking a course in Excel statistics, yet looking for an introductory course to Excel.  I would love to help you through your course, and yet I'm thinking of places on-line where you can quickly learn the fundamentals required for your advanced Excel course.  Firstly, I would like to introduce you to www.mrexcel.com, where even when I have difficulty with advanced functions & formulas, this message board is not only quick with replies, but very informative.   Whether it be Excel 2003 or previous versions, I would suggest a basic understanding of Excel, along with a basic understanding of it's features.....

Again, I would love the opportunity to assist you in learning Excel, however, as previously mentioned, I wouldn't know where to begin.

With statistics you could be looking at functions to prepare for the following:

Database, Date & Time, Engineering, External, Financial, Information, Logical, Lookup & Reference, Maths, Text, & as you mentioned, Statistical, such functions as AVEDEV, AVERAGEA, COUNTIF, LARGE,  jst to mentiona  few of Excel statistical built-in functions.

  2. There are many good tutorial sites for software like excel.

Google is a very useful tool to find these but I did some homework for you and came up with this website. http://www.baycongroup.com/el0.htm
