How does a satellite speaker work?

Is it like a home theater speaker without the wires?

Side and rear speakers are the same thing as the front and center speakers.

When rear sounds for tapes (ProLogic days) came out, the rear sounds were limited so some strange speakers called "Dipoles" were suggested - but these worked the same as regular speakers, just slightly twisted.

no, a sattelite speaker is not wireless. i dont know why they are called sattelite though. you can get wireless speakers
