  1. Divorced mothers and children in single-parent households are two of the U.S. demographic groups most susceptible to poverty.  These 2 groups make up a huge proportion of the poor in America.  Following divorce, the standard of living declines for the majority of women & children.  

    Other top factors determining poverty demographics are race, high school drop out, & early child-bearing.

  3. When two people get divorced, they divide their assets, sometimes unevenly. In some cases this had lead to one person becoming rich and the other becoming poor. If you have a child, child support also comes into play.
