How does heating in USA work ?

In my house, when the heating is on, we always have warm water too. Does it work this way in apartments in the US ? And if so, is the weather in Boston in September so cold that someone would need to turn the heating on ? Thanks

  1. I live in Boston and Sepember is a very beautiful month with warm days and comfortable evenings. I usually never have to turn my heat on until sometime in October. Hot water and heating are usually separate. In summer I need no heat in the home but the furnace still heats the water as needed. In the cold months the furnace will heat the house and maintain hot water at the same time.
