  1. YOU CAN DO IT!

Our brains can't run out of memory.  The U.S. is the only country in the world where the majority of people only know one language.  Many people in other countries know 5 (or even more).  They start learning English in 1st grade! (their second language)

The more languages you can learn, the more international jobs will be available to you.

  2. I think you need to learn English first!  It's always good to learn one language well, first, and then learn other languages.  Don't forget the Spell checker!!

  3. Additionally, after learning your first language (let's say it was Spanish), it is easier to learn the other languages such as French, Greek, Latin, etc.  Something to keep in mind is that much of the English language is derived from these other languages, so oftentimes you'll come to a word that you already know.

    Good luck!

  4. No, your brain doesn't run out of memory, and it is certainly possible to learn 5 languages if you start fairly early in life.  However, I have trouble believing that your teacher really learned any language in one year.  Even people who live in the country in which a language is spoken usually take years to learn it reasonably well.  I'll bet she has a fairly limited knowledge of each of the languages she knows.

  5. Spanish, French, and Italian are considered to be the "romance languages".  They are all based around Latin.  If you really want to learn more languages, Latin is a good place to start.  It is a "dead" language, but so many others are built around it that learning more becomes easy after that.  Once you start to see patterns across languages, it becomes less difficult - you just have to make sure that you don't get them mixed up!

English has a lot of Germanic and Latin roots.  Those tend to be two of the strongest root languages - as well as Greek...

In addition to that, some people are just linguistically gifted.  It's not impossible to learn languages if you're not, but it sure helps!
