That got some attention!

I just got the BCA email on the Canada tournament and it got me thinking. 1 How far would you travel for a game or tournament? 2 What is the farthest you HAVE traveled for a game or tournament?

Okay road players have fun.

  2. If you will allow being on vacation and accidentally finding a tournament... I drove 320 miles. I was passing through Topeka Kansas and ran across Terry's Billiard Club at 3919 S.W. 21st. That Friday night I got into an 8-ball event and got blown out.

Rush-Out Red, the gentleman running the show, informed me that there would be another tournament Saturday if I was still in town, and he would make me a 'B' player. (Obviously my performance didn't impress him when I went two and out. In fact I kinda stunk up the place.)

I told him no, I'm not a road-player, I'm just on vacation passing through and that I was a little off my game. I would play as an 'A' player. He agreed.

I won the tournament. How do thoses adages go... every dog has its day, a blind squirrel finds an acorn, and all that...

Well, it was my day to shine.

Other than that, I travel only about 50-miles. There's a lot of local tournaments in and around St. Louis and Southern Illinois.

  3. Well, not a road player :) ...so far, about two hours, but next month I'm going to a tournament in Florida-- about six hours (happens to be just inside FL)...get to stay in a hotel and everything :) That's about as far as I'm willing to go at this point...some of those FL tourneys are like, 14 hours away-- too far. A lot of these girls who aren't much better than I am travel all over, coast to coast. A girl named Rachel Abbink from Canada, I believe, played in a qualifier I played in here in NC, and she plays on the Ladies Spirit Tour in Florida...girls don't have to be as good to be worth the drive, though...I'm interested to read upcoming answers...

  4. Since I've only been playing seriously for a few years, the farthest that I"ve traveled for a tournament was about a 3 hour drive.  Nothing too impressive.  I'm sure that I'll be doing much more in the upcoming years.  Good question.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

  5. Well, not a lot of trick shot tournaments around, so I go to the ones that there are.  By car, the 6+ hour drive down to Philadelphia and by plane, halfway across the country to Minneapolis.  I've only played in a couple regular pool tournaments, but those were all within biking distance for me.
