  1. very far. there are 2 whole provinces in between.

    you're looking at about a 30 hour drive (straight through).  

    4 or 5 hour flight

  2. How far depends on where you start and where you finish. Dryden Ontario (West side of Ontario) to Calgary Alberta is about 1690 km (approx 1050 mi) of mostly flat prairie driving.  Ottawa, Ontario (East side of Ontario) to Calgary is 3925 km, (approx 2440 mi) the Ontario part much more mountainous, goes around Lake Superior and is not a bit straight unless you take the northern route through Kapuskasing which is relatively straight and very sparcely inhabited - used a lot by truck drivers doing long hauls. Those are the extremes going to Calgary. Google maps can give you an  idea just put in your start and finish points.
