Since emce, indiano and vakayil are incorrect, i am giving you the following details; The distance between bangalore and ooty is about 290 kms and will take you by car, close to 8 hours.

If you did go through Mysore, the time taken will be longer, but the distance will increase way beyond the 290 kms!

the above answer is right. am. it will take you about 11 hours by bus as there is no direct train between ooty and bangalore. however, the road is not good; so prepare for a bumpy ride.

Revision: i personally travelled by bus from bangalore to ooty. It took 11 hours by KSRTC (Karnataka Road Transport Corporation) bus in late October. the bus started at 9pm from bangalore. By the time we reached, it was around 8:30am. Especially in the rainy season, the road conditions are extremely bad. When you get close to ooty, the road turns into 90% potholes, 10% road. very, very, very bumpy.

I agree, maybe the kilometres are more: 290kms., say. However, the travel times given by blum19 (8 hours) are for car travel, and that too under ideal conditions. During rainy season, your car will travel at 30kms/hour as you get close to Ooty (because of the potholes). It will take longer.

So, to repeat my advice: avoid the road during the rainy season.
