  1. It's a large air base in the most Americanized prefecture of Japan. You have every recreational facility known to man (except for horse back riding), a military air terminal where you can get a hop to other Asian destinations, a large Navy hospital four miles south of the base and one of the largest Air Force medical clinics on the base. I spent five years of my life on Okinawa and the local joke was that there were two entities on the island: the Okinawan Prefecture and Kadena County, USA.

The weather is very similar to Hawaii. Tons of beaches. The only down side is that your American dollar doesn't buy as much Japanese Yen as it used to.

Just a tip. It's pronounced Kah-Day-Nah, with the accent on the second syllable. Some of the locals will laugh at you behind your back if you don't pronounce it correctly.

  2. First part is knowing it is Kadena.

Otherwise it is a great place and it is like all.... it is what your personally make of it.

  3. I've never been to Kadena personnally but in 18 years, I have yet to hear a bad word about it.  My boss went over for 3 years and ended up staying 6, he and his wife liked it so much.
