  2. i lived in belfast for 6 years, about 4 years ago. its a really nice place. people in general are very friendly! i recommend you stay out of west belfast (falls road area) its a pretty rough area. there's everything available. city centre is great and east belfast has some nice countryside and stuff. living standards are good, especially in the malone road/ stranmillis area. but then again...this was 4/5 years ago. things might have changed by now.

hope that gave you some help xx

  5. Belfast is the same living standards as anywhere else in the UK, there is nice area's and rough area's. Just need a little guidance to where to stay. In the rougher area's the main problem is sectarianism. There's plenty to do in Belfast, like everywhere after a while you start to go to the same places, but anyway, there obviously fun. The people are nice, most restaurants, pubs, etc. are friendly and very welcome. There are quite a few places to shop, mostly the town centre. We've just had a new shopping centre opened, which has lots of shops, House of Fraser, Topman, Topshop, River Island, etc. You'll really enjoy Belfast, even come over for a weekend some time, and try it out, get to know your way around.

  6. Since the elimination of the IRA from the country in 1998 the country and Belfast has improved dramatically. People feel safe and are happy now.

  7. The standard of living in Belfast is actually really high compared to other cities in the UK.  Accomodation is fairly affordable and usually of a really good condition.  You will be able to find furnished accommodation also which helps.

If you are moving to the city I can recommend several areas.  If you want to be close (within walking distance) to the city and thus near the hub of the best places to eat and bars, clubs museums, shops etc then look for a place in Stranmillis or off the Lisburn Road.  These are both located and are the main housing pool for students from Queens Univeristy.  I tend to find most graduates/young professional live off the Lisburn Road which is a great area.  If you pick one of these areas you will be (a) competing with students and graduates and (b) may be bothered by noise from an occasional student party but I found it is worth it as the location is wonderful! You may get a pick of places too as Landlords tend to like someone who is working and can pay the rent!

If you want something cheaper you can move out into the burbs.  I like Dunmurry (which is on the trainline and takes 11 minutes to get into the city center) or at the other end of the city Ballyhackamore which is on several bus routes.
