How is a staff infection contracted?

My brother is staying at my house since left his wife for about a 3 weeks now. He had gotten a staff infection from his wife (teacher who contracted it at school). Well he went to the doctor and took an entire bottle the antibiotics but did not take the refills. My mother just stopped by and informed me that he went back to the doctor this morning and still has it / it is back and it is worse. How easily is this contracted? He has slept in my bed a couple of times and steals my comfortable pillow all the time. He is basically only here to sleep, shower and for me to wash his clothes. Do I need to worry about this? I know a staff infection is serious.

  1. Did you know staph grows under your fingernails and on your hair? If you scratched someone it could easily become infected. It's a resistant microorganism and can be difficult to treat. You may have heard of MRSA? It's the toughest. In the medical industry requires patients to be isolated. If your brother has been there for three weeks and you have no symptoms you haven't contracted anything yet. He does need to have his own sleep arrangements and bedding. Wash yours and do not let him use your things until he finishes his treatment.

  2. Yah, it's serious and can be spread via contact, mostly through open areas of the skin.  We all have staph and if you swabbed your hands and exposed body part, it would show positive for staph.

Problem is with over-prescribed antibiotics and the infection becomes immune.

Make sure and wash your bedding in hot water with bleach and soap.  Take a daily shower and wash with soap.  Wash your hands frequently.

    You should be fine.

  3. Unfortunately, it's not unusual for an infection to be resistant to a particular antibiotic.  Clearing up the infection may be as simple as just changing medications.

BTW -  It's not a "Staff" infection, it's a "Staph" infection, short for staphylococcus.

  4. It's 'Staph'.
