  1. It will seem worse than you could have ever imagined when you are going through it.  But after it is over, you will probably realize that it was unpleasant, but tolerable.  You will will only get to sleep 6 hours per day (and in shifts at that).  You will get yelled at all the time and have to do pushups and flutter kicks all day.  The worst part for me was the sleep deprivation, and the constant dread that I would do something wrong or would not pass something and would have to stay there longer.  After a week, I became completely numb to the discomfort of doing pushups and flutter kicks all the time.

  2. speaking for the US Marines

all other branches of the military dont com pair,, now dont mistake this comment as being anti Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard all are designed to develop a solider .....which will require discipline...the USMC will push you harder to seek your inner self............until now you have been treated as a"kid, child, or as a individual who has no direction of where you are heading,,,,all this will change..............after completion you will have a since of pride....that no one can compare

  3. It's what you make it. If you want hard, it will be.

  4. Attitude is everything. In basic you will be expected to do things that regular everyday civilians don't have to do. You are being trained to survive on a battlefield. Just go in with an open mind and maintain a positive attitude and you will do fine. Good Luck!

  5. It depends on the person and their attitude.  It's a different experience for every individual.

  6. Both of your friends are right and wrong.  How's that for an answer.  Basic is what you make of it.  A lot of basic is a mind game and if you set your mind to mastering it you will.  It can be and is challenging but not impossible.  It is merely a different world from the one you know and are used to.  You get up before the sun comes up and labor away at an hour or so of PT including normally at least a two mile run.  You go to bed lonely and oh so very tired at the end of the day.  You are hit with an endless array of information you didn't know existed, maximum effective range of an M16/M9/M2/M240/M240/AT4/...well you get the idea.  And of course there's the things you really would rather not know about.  The symptoms of nerve agent exposure and how to use the Autopam injector or whatever it is the Army replaced it with.  And of course leave us not forget the first aid steps for a 'sucking chest wound', they can really be nasty.  How is it?  Well I'm glad you asked, It's life, not overly comfortable and theres a lot of lonliness (especially on Sundays) but it's life and bearable, and you can make it.

  7. did the post above me just spell compare as "com pair"?

basic is what you make of it. some are easier than others depends on what rdc you get. depends on if you actually want to be there. depends on if you studied before you left! make sure you do everything your recruiter tells you to do before you leave and it should be fine

  8. Depends on the person, their physical condition, mental preparedness and whether or not they really want to be in the Military.
