  1. One can use tests the same way a school does.  Many homeschoolers, however, do not use tests, since their parents and teachers already know what they can and cannot do.

  2. Do you mean standardized tests? If so, for us, we meet with a group of other home schoolers and test together under the supervision of a lady who has a 4 year degree. This is what the test requires. She administers it, takes it up and sends them out to be graded then returns all of our results.

If you mean day to day tests, we only have those for Spelling and Math. The rest I keep track of what they know as we go through the work together. They write a lot of reports and we do discussions.

  3. This was my experience as a homeschooler before I graduated: For normal tests on a given subject, I would sit down with the test from the book, answer the questions just like anyone else, and then turn in the test to my mother to be graded.

As for "finals" or end-of-the-year examinations to prove our mastery of that particular grade, as a young child I would be given evaluations by public school teachers, which was basically an oral and sometimes written test of the basic skills of that grade. Once I was too old for evaluations, my parents could pick from a number of tests, but they settled on the IOWA: www.pesdirect.com/itbs.html .

  4. Every place I have lived and homeschooled, testing has been optional.  And there is no need for testing your own kids because you know whether or not they know the material anyway.

    :D

  5. It totally depends on the type of homeschooling you do.  Tests could be conducted by any combination of:

    -Parents

    -Standardized testing centers

    -Tutors

    -Online schools

    -Correspondence schools

    -"Umbrella" schools

-Or even no testing at all, in the case of "unschooling"

I was only ever tested by my parents and at standardized testing locations, and only then because my parents opted to have me take the standardized tests (I wasn't required to).  I never took the SATs or ACTs and I'm now a senior in college with a 4.0 GPA.

Why did I get a thumbs-down on this?  I'm not trying to brag...I'm just trying to point out that the SAT and ACT aren't always necessary like some people think they are.

  6. My mom just walked by said take this test then walk off if that usualy i was responeable for making sure my test where done.

  7. usually the curriculum you use has a tes format if not you can make up the questions your self and give your kid the test.

  8. Tests are totally acceptable when a teacher needs to evaluate an entire classroom of kids to ensure they are learning and have proof to give their parents that they are learning.

But I'm with my kid all the time. I know he's learning by what he does.

Habitually testing children is like pulling up a plant to ensure it's roots are growing.

You don't need to measure it's roots; you only need to view it's blooms to see it's healthy.

  9. What test?  Were we supposed to give a test?

Sorry.  It is Luigi's fault.   He has the silly side of my brain engaged.
