How is the situation in Iraq?

I've heard the good, I've heard the bad. I just want to know how overall progress is, if you know, that's all. Are the costs worth the results or are they not?

And please, don't be so one-sided. Lay off the buzz-words like "kool-aid" "lib" "con" "patriot" "un-american" "warmonger" and "propaganda"!

Keep it civilized, thanks.

  1. I think that the situation has gotten much better thanks to the surge.  People have to remember that a war is not won easily or, most importantly, at no cost.

  2. I will try to be as objective as possible ....... but I may not succeed.

I believe things are getting better in Iraq but my personal reasoning may have no sway to your way of thinking. My reasoning is that my son who was in Iraq in 2004 and left the Army after his service - has

re-upped and is going back to Iraq voluntarily and happily because he

is convinced there is hope on the horizon.

The objective part is that the Middle East believes Iraq is getting better.

You may want to take a few moments and read the Middle East

Times for some of their insight. Though you may not want to hear their opinions on our out of touch presidential nominees.

  3. "How is the situation in Iraq?"  is almost impossible to answer becasue our government has never made it clear what the mission was. Spreading democracy?  The global war on terror?  Saddam Hussein has the potential to make WMDs (ignoring the fact that most every intelligent person has the POTENTIAL to make a WMD)?

"Are the costs worth the results or are they not?"  Again, how could we know if the results are worth the cost?  What exactly are the intended results?

  4. With the media concentrating on Georgia right now who knows...?

  5. You can tell things are going GOOD by watching the media......NOT by what they say......but by what they do not say

For the past 7 years the nightly news has been overflowing with the dead wounded and maimed American troops from Iraq.... Every-night was flooded with negative news of Iraq.....In the past six months.....with over 360 hours of news.....ABC has only devoted 8 minutes to Iraq..... military units are coming back after a year without losing a single trooper.....13 of the 18 phase lines have been met.... the entire country is thriving.....prospering......even the terrorists are leaving.... Obama's promise to withdraw the troops in 18 months may be a waste.....I do not see there being a need for US troops beyond this year.....they may be gone before he can take office

DIGIT.... You may have been sleeping in class..... President Bush made the reason for the war.....the goal of the war very clear.... before the invasion President Bush said "This is a global war against terrorism and the NATIONS that support terrorism"

This war was never about WMDs ( they were there .....we found them and they were even used against us)......this war was not about 911....Al Quida....Osama...... oil.....world domination or any other canard proffered by the media.... this war was and is about "terrorism"

and we have been successful...... for over 7 years there has not been a terrorist attack against an American target anywhere in the world.....

In addition.....despite the false contention that we "allienated the world".... we have MORE friends and supporters now than we ever did..... the ONLY people against us are the same people who were against us before the war.... and some of those have changed sides ( Syria and Libya are supporting us)

  6. we arent winning, we arent losing. all warring factions seem to be in a temporary cease fire.

I believe the Sunnis and Madhi army are waiting to see who wins the presidency to see what the new or old US policy will be then take action.
