How many consider themselves independents?

Which is to say, how many people vote for a candidate based on the specific person, rather than the party they serve? I personally think everyone should be, the worst part of elections in this country are that there are only two main parties and a lot of closed-minded people that will only vote for people from a specific party.

  1. I recently re registered as an independent, and will never vote partisan again!!!

  2. That is exactly why I stay Independent---I feel both parties need to stay on their toes to earn votes and not get too lackadaisical...

  3. I am an independent.  Many folks right now dont vote based on the issues or the person they vote for the party.

I believe we would be better off if we do away with both parties and have all candidates run as independents.

  4. I guess I would say I am independent. I think they should ban political parties that way people would have to decide based on the PERSON

  5. Since I could 1st vote in 2000 I have considered myself independent. I have voted for both democrats and republicans on a local and national basis.

However this year I'm having a hard time finding anything good to say about the Republican presidential nominee.

  6. David,

    I am an independent.

I have voted for people in both parties based on their political positions.

I've also voted for independents - Ross Perot.

    "Ranger"

  7. Right on. I am an independent too.

  8. lol to the guy below me

  9. If I am independent, it is not to ponder whether I want a Republican or a Democrat in office.  I have my own mind.

Yet, I am a registered Democrat, because the majority of the time, the majority of my views are reflected through the political platform of the Democratic Party.

With that said, when I disagree with Democrats, generally it's when Democrats are too giving of America's money to charitable sinkholes that misappropriate the money.

  10. I'm an independent and I'm voting for Senator Obama because I'm a patriot who loves my country. I don't believe McCain would be good for America.

  11. To answer your question, either party will get 40 percent of the vote no matter what happens. Mondale got that, Goldwater got that, etc. The remaining 20 percent is split, depending on the dynamics of a particular race.

  12. I am always have  been

I look at the candidates and the party they belong to

  13. i consider myself a modern federalist, but because there is no candidate that shares my views i am an independent.  I loved clinton, disliked bush, and now i am probably going to choose mccain as the lesser of two evils.

  14. I sure am.. used to be a Democrat.. in fact have always been a Democrat.  Obama ended that for me.. I don't want to be part of his cult!

Anyway, I find I do prefer to vote for the person rather than the party.. it is safer!

  15. I am independent but not that I would support Republicans, just that I would support people more liberal than Democrats.

  16. If it all comes down to a puppy strangling contest (which I hope it won't), I'd bet on Obama. Cuz he's dainjreous.
