Question:

How many hammocks for 2 rats?

I have 2 baby girl rats coming on Friday, I have the huge cage ready except the hammock. I went to the pet store to get two but they only have ferret hammocks, is that too big? I was thinking of getting the one big one instead of 2 small ones.

Would that be okay?

  1. Rats enjoy cuddling so one large hammock would probably even be more enjoyable for them. They may get into occasional spats over which side they get to sleep on but otherwise, they should thoroughly enjoy eachother's company and warmth.

  2. I would love to see a rat that will just hang out in a hammock.

A ferret hammock is perfect size because it's a misconception but rats do get very large.

Although, my 5month old little guy...he just pulls the hammock back and forth & uses it as a potty.

  3. yeah it should

    just watch over them

just so they dont fight over space.

(even though there is enough space for them both)

  4. Be prepared to buy a replacement within a few weeks to a month because Rats love to chew.

  5. You'd do better to just make your own.

The ratties are going to LOVE chewing that down:)

    Congrats on the new babies!

I had to (before I learned better) buy ferret hammocks for mine my cage is about 3 feet long and 2 feet wide with three stories, so I had plenty of room to attach it.

Should you need the string to be shorter so you can attach it, you can tie a knot in it.

And your girls will love sleeping in it together (Until they chew it down) one big one will be a plenty!

  6. honestly i have 2 rats and i got them a ferret hammock and they chewed it and broke it lol. but yes that is bug enough

  7. i would wait to see if the are aggressive towards each other... then determine weather they should sleep in the same hammock or not! btw i have a baby girl hairless rat and lover her! wishing to get another! GOOD LUCK!

  8. I've always made my own with a denim pant leg. It doesn't matter if it's a little small, they'll squeeze in, but bigger would be better. Make sure you also have a little house with a roof for them (you probably already do). The enclosed space keeps them warm, and the covered roof makes them feel safe. I use a clementine crate.

  9. if  were u id get the ferret on for them to sleep together in, but also get 2 rat hammocks when i could so theyy each had theyre own lil space=]
