1. Too many to count. The exact figure, or even an approximation thereof, is unknown.

  2. Astronomers aimed the Hubble telescope at the darkest part of the sky,a place where they could not see any stars. It was a speck of sky the size of a grain of sand held at arms length. It was called the ultra deep field survey.

What they found astonished even veteran astronomers.

No less than 3000 galaxies, each with 100's of billions of stars!

The number of stars is truly unimaginable. My favorite quote:

"The universe is not only stranger than we imagined.....it is stranger than we CAN imagine." Here, click on this to see this image: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgg2tpUVb...

  3. ALOT!! There are more stars in the Universe than grains of sand on the Earth. There are about 100 billion galaxies in the Universe and 100 billion stars on average in each of those galaxies, so you do the math.

  4. trillions.

    by your eyes is millions.

  5. there is no definite number, but u can break it down. there are hundreds of billions of stars in a galaxy and there are hundreds of billions of galaxies in the universe. so i would say A LOT!

  6. We have no idea how many stars there are in our own galaxy, much less the rest of the universe. Estimates for the milky way vary by a couple hundred billion. No one is actually counting either. Estimates are based on mass. Unfortunately the mass of a galaxy is difficult to determine and astrophysicists have invented an invisible mass, "dark matter" to make up for any observational discrepancies. This sort of fudging has a name: "bad science". I suggest using Sagan's phrase "billions and billions" and leave it go at that. No one will ever know the exact number. "billions and billions"

  7. There are about 10 billion (10^10) stars in an average galaxy,

But it is still not known. If we would start counting our whole life would just go in counting stars. there are so much

    INFINITE.......

  8. There are around 10^24 stars in the Universe, as a very rough estimate. That's approximately a sextillion, or a million million million million, stars. Most of these are red dwarf stars, much smaller than the Sun.

  9. So the Milky Way is thought to have something like 400 billion stars. There are thought to be something like 100 billion galaxies in the visible universe. So that suggests about 4 * 10^22 stars. Additionally, the rest of the Universe must be at least 10^9 times larger, which suggests a lower limit of 10^31 stars.

There are no where near that many grains of sand on the beaches of Earth.
