I'm pregnant with my first child and I was just curious what people thought was the perfect age distance between siblings? 1 year? 2 years? 5 years? Do they fight any more/less with age gaps?

  1. Age gap barely matters in my opinion. Siblings always fight and age isn't the cause, it's more of personality.

Although the closer they are in age, the more in common they may share, which will lead to stronger bonds and possibly less fighting.

  2. They are going to fight at any age.

I would just do what feels right for you.

Just see how you cope with the first and then imagine trying to look after a new born with your toddler in the equasion.

1-3 years apart can make it pretty tough....

but if it happens, you will cope and love them no matter what.

  3. Wait until your first child is walking, talking and completely potty trained *around 2 - 2 1/2* to get pregnant again.  This puts them about 3 years apart.  My first 3 sons were spaced this way and it worked great.  My last son was born only 2 yrs after the third son and it was a bit trying at times.  The 2yr old still wanted to be the baby and needed a great deal of assurance and attention, too.  He would perch on the arm of my recliner and say "Hold me both", as I fed the baby.  Kinda tough on a mom.  Good luck to you.

  4. don't go with 2 years, my sister and i are and well, we hate each other, she was so jealous of me that she took me out of my bassinet at 6 months and dropped me, and she crammed me in my diper bag and had it half zipped in less than a min.

  5. I would suggest two years, that way they are close enough to play with each other and far enough apart to allow you body to recuperate after you last pregnancy

  6. I say maybe two are one.

    Reasons why:

1.If they are born with months close together like April and March you can celebrate them together. Saves money!

2.They will always have eachothers back because they will always be like in close grades.

3.Usally kids that are closer in age get along bettr.

  7. 3 years is best

  8. My brothers and I were 7 & 8 years apart. The oldest claims he never knew I was alive and believe me I couldnt stand him cause he always had to watch me.  The younger and I are close and he has always taken good care of me and now that I am grown vice versa.  My kids are 1 1/2  years apart.  They fight, they compete, they love each other, they play together, they stick up for one another, they teach eachother bad things and they get on eachothers nerves but I wouldnt have it anyother way.  They are good for eachother.  Its like having a built in play mate.

  9. Mine are 23 months apart. They are both boys and get along great. They have times they fight ..but for the most part get along very well.

  10. loads of kids have a gap of 2years lol don't no why me and my bro have an age gap of 6 years we get along Great..

  11. I can't say what the perfect age is between kids but I can only say that my first two are 7 years apart and there is not a single minute they do not fight ever except when they are asleep and in seperate rooms. It is very rough.

  12. Mine are six minutes! But I'd say about 1-2 years.

  13. me and my sister are 4 years apart and me and  my other sister are 2 years apart..me and the one who is 4 years apart get along better than the one who is 2 years apart from me.....

  14. have a baby every 9 months if you can

    10 or 12 children is optimal ...

plus you dont have to pay taxes , the government will give you money , you can take advantage of people who dont have kids and pay the highest tax bracket

  15. Every family is different.  You'll have people tell you have them close together like 1 to 2 years apart and then you'll have people tell you to have your kids 5 years apart.  Have your kids when you plan on having them or when it just happens.  My kids are 4 1/2 years apart and they are always at each others.

  16. Me and my sister are 3 years apart. All siblings argue, but we are ok (=

  17. I am still a kid. I am 22 years apart between my oldest bro and 8 years apart between my other older bro. I think they all fight the same. I am the youngest in my family.

  18. people who have 2 years gap get along pretty great. They could be in the same school, and girls could share clothes.

anything above 5 years is a huge gap, and there's like a huge gap in communication between siblings.

  19. It is really up to what works for the parents.  I am pregnant with my second child and my first will be 19 months when the baby is born.  I want them to be friends but there are no guarantees.

My siblings and I were all 2 years apart.  We fought horribly as children, but grew closer as adults. Now we are close friends.

My husbands siblings are all spaced 5 years apart.  They get along just fine but they are not and have never been close.  Still they would do anything for each other.

As you can see, there are advantages to any age gap.

  20. 1, 2, or 3.

me and my sister are a year apart. me and my brother are 3 years apart and both are 2 years apart. we get a long pretty good :]

  21. My boys are six years apart and they get along great.  My older son feels so proud of himself being able to take care of the baby.  Of course there's the drawback of not really having a playmate, but I think it's nice for the kids to have some space.  My older son got to be an only child for 6 years and now the baby will get all the attention while the firstborn is at school.

  22. hmm i think that the connect more when they are closer in age, my brother and i are like 1 year apart and we  hang out with each others friends and we can hang out together :)

  23. age doesn't matter.

what matters is what you find in their soul. Its alllls about the soul, amnd the love you give each child man, Its like an explosion of love. what you need is an explosion of love. all over your children

  24. I think between 2 and 3 years get one out of diapers and the other in but don't wait more than three that is too big of an age difference and they won't have anything in common as they get older.

  25. My son and daughter are almost exactly 24 mo apart...From my experience, I would say 3yrs is perfect...that way you have one out of diapers before you you get back in them again....having 2 in diapers was rough on me and financially..:)

  26. MAKE SURE that the age gap is as little as possible.  Siblings of the same age/1 year age difference get along better than siblings 1.5 years and up.  I'd have to say that if there is a 3 year age difference and up, they will hate each other, from what i've observed.

  27. Congrats! im prego with my first also and im goin with 2 to 3years apart so that there not to close together and not to far apart, i think its a great year diff. i want one that can walk, talk, and out of diapers by the time i have another one

  28. i think a good gap would be 7 yrs because i get along with my older sister very well , and i mean that i'm not joking it was the best time when she was 17 and i was 12 so that would be a perfect gap

  29. I say 2-4 years apart...if the sibling is between brother and brother and sister and sister. If the sibling is between brother and sister..i would say 4-6 years apart.

I have a older brother who is older than me 6 years. I can depend on him to teach me and give me advice on certain things. It's very nice. My younger who is only 1.5 years apart from me, he is rebellious. He doesn't like to listen to me whenever I give him advice. He doesn't have any respect for me.

  30. my first two were barely more than year apart, same s*x and fought nearly to the death all their childhood.  It was hard when both in diapers, both on bottles, like twins.  then there was 9 years until last child of opposite s*x whom they both adored and spoiled, but it was quite a large gap.  I think 3-5 years would work and give you some break and time alone with each infant.

  31. 1 trust me 5 leads to trouble
