How much do Lifeguards get Paid?

Question

Ok, so I'm a kid (old enough to be a lifeguard) in Katy, Texas, and I want to know how much (on average) your generic lifeguard gets paid. I'm trying to make a decision on whether or not to work as a lifeguard or at Chick-Fil-A.

Evern if you're not from Katy, or even from Texas for that matter, any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

I work at several pools. At the YMCA (indiana) I make 6.35 an hour

a hotel's pool $8

a private swim club $6

It really does vary where you work. Where I live, they have so many lifeguards they don't know what to do with them. In fact, I was making $6.25 (min. wage in Ohio is $7.15 !!). Though I have a friend who works in PA. They are low in lifeguards and they will pay anywhere from $15-$20 an hour. I would find some friends who are lifeguards and they should be able to tell you. Also, it depends where you work - working at the YMCA vs. working at an upscale gated community.

Also, factor in cost and time of classes.

At the bottom level, you will amost always be paid more as a lifeguard than a fast food worker. the reason being is that lifeguarding requires a course and reasonable swim skills; not everyone can do that, therefore it is a somewhat valuable skill and will almost always pay better than if you got a job that doesn't require a hard skill. Chick-Fil-A is a fast food joint that will hire almost anyone regardless of skills; they're almost definitely going to pay anyone without experience the minimum wage.

well, in the bay area, lifeguards (where i've checked) get paid $15-20 an hour, which is way better than mcdonalds... the only problem is it's a kinda boring job, but to sit around doing nothing for an hour and get paid twenty dollars isn't bad at all!

actually, now that i think about it, they get 15 breaks once an hour where I will be lifeguarding, so it's not bad at all.
